Wasteland, 2020
A series of group shows curated by Bea Buckland-Willis which aimed to center feminine presenting and/or adjacent young adults reflecting on the unsettling liminality of some seemingly insignificant scenes.
The themes and printmaking techniques explored in preparation for the Wasteland series (our second show cancelled by another covid lockdown) - particularly Un Momento, informed Eliza’s direction in working with relief printmaking.
Capturing moments of heightened awareness, drawing on one’s sense of vulnerability when traveling alone within a feminine body; like one gets into the habit of dialing a friend when uncomfortable walking home or taking photos for a digital record of time, Gwynne’s seemingly serine cityscapes become urgent and intimidating.
